How do you source your insects?

Our Lemongrass Ants are foraged by the Anteater team in greater Canterbury.  This species is just one of about 40 in NZ (not all of which taste nearly as good!) and we have spent the last 12 months working closely with experts in the field to learn all about their habitats and behaviours. Potential harvest sites are carefully vetted and the process requires a number of extraction and quality control steps which typically occur over several days.  We distribute additional products such as locusts and huhu grubs which are wild harvested and/or farmed by contractors throughout NZ.

I want to start an insect farm! What do I do?

Awesome!  NZ absolutely needs more commercial insect farms.  But you should be prepared for the fact that insect farming can be labour-intensive and farms require a fairly lengthy certification process in order for those insects to be fit for sale as food.  The best place to start for general information about insect farming is here: http://www.openbugfarm.com/forum.html If you think you have what it takes to be a farmer for Anteater, please get in touch and tell us why we should work with you.

Can Peter and Bex come speak to my organisation?

Yes!  Absolutely!  Both Peter and Bex are experienced public speakers and education is a critical part of what Anteater does. If you would like to talk to us about your event, please get in touch.  We would be happy to discuss details and rates.  Please note that travel arrangements will be required for speaking engagements outside the Canterbury region.

Are there shops where I can buy Anteater products? Or can you sell products to me directly?

Not at this stage.  Anteater is a wholesaler which currently sells exclusively to restaurants and special events.  There are plenty of companies which sell shelf-stable, processed insect products in shops but we really want to be certain that your first experience with edible insects is fANTastic.  That's why we choose to work only with the best chefs and special events in the country.  If and when we have an amazing retail product ready for you to try, we will let you know.  Be sure to sign up for our mailing list to be kept informed and follow our social media for updates about restaurants in your area who are serving Anteater products.

Can I have a quote for my publication?

We LOVE to talk about edible insects.  But we do get quite a lot of media inquiries.  As such, we typically have to limit our print press interviews to features specifically about Anteater.  If you are keen to write a piece on us, please get in touch.  We'd be more than happy to talk to you.
